A warm welcome to the St Paul’s parish website.

This site belongs first of all to our parishioners, a place to find Mass times, news, and all that helps us live our faith together. Yet it is also here for anyone who is searching, who has questions about the Catholic faith, or who simply wonders and is hesitant to ask. Nothing you read here will judge you; everything is offered in the hope that it may draw you closer to Christ.

Please explore freely, and never be afraid to get in touch.

Journey with us in faith prayer and community

A message from Rev Canon Stephen Watson

It is a joy to welcome you to St Paul’s Roman Catholic Church here in Alnwick,  a place of prayer, peace, and community at the heart of our town. Whether you are visiting, returning to the faith, or seeking a quiet moment with God, please know that you are most warmly received.

At St Paul’s we believe that the Church is a family where all are loved, valued, and called by name. Our doors are open to everyone because
Jesus Christ welcomes each of us with boundless love. In His presence we find mercy, healing, and hope.

You are invited to join us in prayer, in the celebration of the sacraments, or simply to sit before the Lord in stillness. May your time here bring you comfort, renewal, and the peace that comes from knowing that you are loved by God.

With every blessing,
Rev Canon Stephen Watson
Parish Priest

A Reflection for the coming month.

Each month we pause to look ahead, placing the weeks to come in the light of the Church’s liturgical year.

Rooted in Faith

At St Paul’s RC Church, our life of faith flows from our love of God and our communion with His Holy Church. Yet we recognise that our mortal minds can sometimes falter when seeking to comprehend the mysteries of the divine. Here, we walk together in faith, reflecting upon those heavenly truths and discerning their meaning through the language and experiences of our earthly lives.

The Gentle Glow of Prayer

Bring a little light into the world, wherever you are. For £2, we will light a candle in church on your behalf, or for £5, watch St Paul’s glow under the stars at night. Simply choose your date, share your intention, and let your prayer shine brightly.

“For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.”     1 Corinthians 12:12

Introduction to the Coming Sunday Gospel & Acclamation

Each week, we are invited  to pause, to listen, and to open our hearts to the living Word of God. The Gospel for the coming Sunday draws us more deeply into the mystery of Christ’s love and challenges us to recognise His presence in the ordinary rhythms of life. Through the Gospel proclamation and the Acclamation that precedes it, we are reminded that the Lord continues to speak to us, His people, calling us to faith, to repentance, and to the fullness of life in Him.

As we prepare to gather at St Paul’s this Sunday, may we approach the Gospel with attentiveness, reverence, and hope, allowing Christ’s words to shape our thoughts, strengthen our faith, and guide our daily living.

Prayers and Devotions

In the stillness of prayer, we draw closer to God, finding peace, strength, and renewal through His grace.
This section offers a treasury of traditional Catholic prayers, devotions, and reflections to help deepen your faith and enrich your spiritual life. Whether said privately or shared as part of our community, may these sacred words guide your heart to Christ and inspire daily communion with Him.

Sacraments of Initiation

Through Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist, we are welcomed into God’s family, strengthened by His Spirit, and nourished by the Body of Christ, the beginning of a lifelong journey of faith.

Sacraments of Healing

Through Reconciliation and the Anointing of the Sick, Christ restores our peace, forgives our sins, and brings healing to the body, mind, and soul.

Sacraments of Service

Through Marriage and Holy Orders, God calls us to lives of love and service building up His Church and sharing His divine love with the world.

St Paul’s Church Choir

Music holds a cherished place within the heart of our parish life. The St Paul’s Church Choir exists to enrich the beauty of our liturgy through sacred song, uniting voices in praise and prayer.
Whether leading the congregation in hymn and chant or offering reflective pieces at the Holy Mass, the choir seeks to glorify God and uplift the hearts of all who listen.
New members are warmly welcomed, no formal experience is required, only a love of music and a willingness to serve. Rehearsals are held weekly in the church.

For further details or to join, please speak to our Choir Director after Mass or contact the parish office.        Find out more…

There is a man on the Cross

“When you look at the crucifix, you understand how much Jesus loved you then. When you look at the Sacred Host, you understand how much Jesus loves you now. But on the Cross there is still a Man,  because God wanted to suffer with you and for you. There is still a Man on the Cross.”

“Giants of faith. Lessons for life.”

Our Catholic faith is a living journey of love, worship, and discipleship in Christ. Throughout history, faithful men and women have helped to spread the Lords word and bring His presence to others. In this section, we celebrate their lives, their devotion, and the ways they continue to inspire the Church today.

Apostles’ Creed: I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus, O merciful, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Amen.
Rosary Prayer: O God, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life. Grant, we beseech Thee, that by meditating on these mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
Sign of the Cross: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

“The Rosary, though clearly Marian in character, is at heart a Christocentric prayer. In the sobriety of its elements, it has all the depth of the Gospel message in its entirety…”   Pope John Paul II

The journey of faith is one of continual discovery of God’s truth, His love, and His invitation to holiness. For Catholics, this journey is nurtured by sacred Scripture, the teaching of the mother Church, and the wisdom of those who have walked the path of faith before us.

Here, we offer a collection of essential reading for all who seek to understand and live the Catholic faith more deeply. Each work invites the reader to grow in knowledge, prayer, and devotion, drawing ever closer to Christ and the heart of His Church.
